Shannon Maree Walsh – Seattle Shorts Film Festival

Champion gymnast turned actress, Shannon Maree Walsh didn’t have the most conventional introduction to the entertainment world, but playing opposite Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, and Adam Levine, in just her second big screen credit, she sure is making a splash. In The Weinstein Company’s film, Begin Again, Shannon plays nerdy musician, Rachel, the Cellist in Gretta’s (Keira Knightley) band. Following its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 and closing the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival, it was released theatrically on July 2nd, 2014.

Her first role was in Wes Craven’s film My Soul to Take. She had never acted before and was originally associated with the film as an extra.  A week after handing in her photo, her role was expanded beyond an extra and a year after, it grew again—all by chance and a taped audition.  Other credits of hers include Law & Order: SVU, The Michael J Fox Show, Unforgettable and ABC’s ‘What Would You Do?’. She also plays the violin, cello (which she learned specifically for her role in Begin Again,) and has been teaching herself guitar. When she isn’t acting or tumbling, Shannon has dedicated her time to working with kids with special needs and has a long-running relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
